I'm getting to work up some loads on .45acp using Universal powder.

Forgive my ignorance (I am kinda a newbie here), but why is there such a huge range of grains when loading a 230g RN bullet?

Hodgdon's is saying 4.5 - 5.4, and I believe Lee (I don't have it in front of me) is around 5.5grains.

It seems to me like other powder combinations have much smaller accepted ranges of load.

What are you guys loading .45acp with and what is working well for you?

I don't load for the 45acp, but always start at the smallest powder weight and work your way up.
Did you get the crony for checking your loads?
With out it, it will be hard to add or decrease powder weight.

There seem to be 2 major schools in reloading .45...

The cron it, or the set-it-and-forget-it.

I'll tell you this - in MY experience, a lot depends on what you're loading FOR! I'll load for an officers much different than a 5".

I reload 32 acp, 38 sp., 380, 9mm Luger, 40 cal S&W, 45 acp and .223 rifle.
Also some 357 magnum.

Except for the 357 and the 223 I use Alliant Bullseye and love it.
If interested I will give the recipe for the 45acp 230 gr with this powder.

Hey OrlandoAve!

I'd be interested in your recipes for .45acp using Bullseye. I've never used it. What are you reloading for? Plinking? Competition?

It would be helpful if you started it in a new thread here though.

Thanks!
